Want to write, email or call your Texas state representative and state senator to encourage action to limit the eminent domain laws in Texas? Start here: Who represents me?
add 12:30p --
Just talked with Dist 123 state rep Mike Villareal and
was impressed to learn he has ALREADY asked the Texas Legislative
Council to come up with proposed language for a new state law
that would LIMIT taking people's private property in order to
give it to other private owners, developers and such. Am scheduled
to talk with state rep Frank Corte Jr after the 1pm news about
the same thing.

add 1:30 -- Rep Corte says he has
already contacted the governor in an effort to get this issue on
the agenda for the current Special Session, which is just astonishingly
fast action. I told him I appreciate it and admire him for doing
it so rapidly-- and that if the governor does allow the issue to
be considered during this session, I will never again call him

Davidson of the Express-News
just told me that the Sunday paper will have a report by Lynnell
Burkett on the proposed Texas A&M campus on the South Side,
which will reveal that A&M already owns 98.5 acres not far from
where they want to confiscate people's houses to make room for
the campus. This whole Espada Development District tax-break
scheme is another deal where developers get money stuffed in
their pockets by politicians. VOTE IN MY TEN-FOOT POLL BELOW

16 to 25? Pentagon has your number, and more
The Defense Department and a private contractor have been building an extensive database of 30 million 16-to-25-year-olds, combining names with Social Security numbers, grade-point averages, e-mail addresses and phone numbers. The department began building the database three years ago, but military officials filed a notice announcing plans for it only last month. That is apparently a violation of the federal Privacy Act

The War President
"..after 9/11 President Bush, with obvious relish, declared himself a "war president." And he kept the nation focused on martial matters by morphing the pursuit of Al Qaeda into a war against Saddam Hussein."
U.S. general sees no ebb in insurgency
The top American commander for the Middle East said Thursday that the insurgency in Iraq had not diminished, seeming to contradict statements by Vice President Dick Cheney in recent days that the insurgents were in their "last throes."

"..voted 11-0 to move the start time for the regular Thursday meetings from 1 p.m. to 9 a.m. The mayor's aim is to finish the Thursday meeting by 7 p.m. and if it's going long, the council can decide whether to push on or return Friday morning to finish.

White House stands behind Rove comments
A White House official said Friday the administration finds it "somewhat puzzling" that Democrats are demanding presidential adviser Karl Rove's apology or resignation for implying that liberals are soft on terrorism.

Last night (6-22) Karl Rove said, "Liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers." Do you agree with his statement?

Brad, isn¹t it astonishingly ironic how closely the Supreme Court ruling

I just finished writing every elected representative short of Dubya regarding the eminent domain SCOTUS decision. I've not been this torqued off at the 'supremes' in a long time. Hopefully, we'll get some sort of executive/legislative double team against the judiciary on this case. Thanks for your excellent public service!
Home seizure ruling doesn't play in Texas
After decision, an amendment is quickly proposed to limit powers of eminent domain
Hours after the court's 5-4 ruling came down, Rep. Frank Corte Jr., R-San Antonio, said he would seek "to defend the rights of property owners in Texas" by proposing a state constitutional amendment limiting local powers of eminent domain, or condemnation.
But officials in the beachfront town of Freeport, south of Houston, said they would move aggressively to condemn property owned by two seafood companies to clear the way for an $8 million private marina.

Today I was able to get a "register" page to come up. I filled it out and tried to go, and it came up blank with a little colored square off to the left top corner. I closed the page and tried again. This time a window came up saying : "You have a pop-up blocker enabled. Click here to launch the player! " So now I am going to click on that to see if it will run the player. IT WORKS! Thanks KTSA

The little colored square is all that I see, too, and at first you sit there wondering what it means-- but after a little while the audio signal begins. Maybe down the line the user interface will be tinkered with to make it easier to use. Thanks for writing.
