Bush, Kerry rev up for first campaign face-off CRAWFORD, Texas — It's a classic pre-debate dance, maybe as important as the matchup itself: lower expectations for your candidate's performance and jab the other guy while you're at it.

TDI says insurance claims down Insurers paid Texas homeowners 38 cents in claims for every $1 they charged in premiums during the first half of this year, their best showing in several years, according to the Texas Department of Insurance.

Heady US goals for Iraq fall by wayside Despite continuing violence and instability, President Bush has stuck doggedly to his central message on Iraq: There is no need to change course because the administration's plan for planting democracy in the Middle East is working. My name is Brad and I fear I may become a Trash TV fan. I had no interest in quote Reality TV, but last night Carole and I watched the preview of "Wife Swap" and it was captivating and repulsive, kind of a Daily Double of emotion. You bet we'll give it another shot when the regular "Wife Swap" series premieres Wednesday. Who knows where this might lead? Maybe I'll stay captivated and buy a floppy bow tie and start having an entertainment segment on my program. Start calling women Girl. Develop a French accent. Talk like Johnny Depp in "Don Juan DeMarco" saying zees weemens zay all loff me. No, wait, we hate the French now don't we. Sorry. Damn. I have to go off to reindoctrination camp, don't I.

HOWARD KURTZ
Up Next: The News In Red and Blue If you were watching the network evening news in June, July and August, you would have seen somewhat favorable coverage of John Kerry -- six out of 10 evaluations were positive -- and somewhat unfavorable coverage of President Bush.
If you were watching Fox News Channel's 6 p.m. newscast, you would have seen about the same coverage of the president. But Kerry's evaluations were negative by a 5 to 1 margin.
