I struggle to find a way to make people understand the facts of the US war against Iraq when it is obvious that Iraq had little or nothing to do with 9-11. Most of the people around me are intelligent, educated people who refuse to accept the facts and if they do accept the facts it does not matter.
Sometimes, I feel like I am swimming in quicksand.
Thank you for the facts.

CHENEY MISLEADS ON IRAQ / AL-QAEDA CONNECTION

Displaying a brazen disregard for the facts, Vice President Cheney told an audience in Cincinnati Thursday that Iraq had "provided safe harbor and sanctuary...for Al Qaeda."[1]
There is no evidence to support Cheney's claim.
The 9/11 Commission - which spent months exhaustively studying the issue - concluded there was no "collaborative relationship" between Iraq and al-Qaeda.[2]
After the release of the report, Cheney claimed there was "overwhelming" evidence of a relationship between al-Qaeda and Iraq and that he had "probably" seen evidence that was not shared with the commission.[3] After investigating the matter, the 9/11 Commission found "it had access to the same information the vice president has seen regarding contacts between Al Qaeda and Iraq prior to the 9/11 attacks."
The commission also reaffirmed its position that it had not discovered a "collaboration-cooperation between al-Qaeda and Iraq."[4]

email fan letter
Dear Mr. Messer,
... I have decided that my life-long policy of not bothering people I admire with fan letters should probably change.
I can't think why I shouldn't thank people if they have, somehow made my life a better, brighter and more interesting place to be.
You are one of those people. Thank you.
Your show alternately makes me laugh and think— and think about what I'm laughing about...
I have enjoyed your show from the first time I heard it two years ago when I stopped off in San Antonio to visit my family after being thrown out of a small, Caribbean country for journalistic excess.
I stayed here, abandoned the journalism business (or rather, it abandoned me--I just don't have the "killer instinct" necessary; I can't ask the "are you still beating your wife" questions.)
Now I listen to your show and blithely follow your web links, shambling after you like dingle-doodies. (How many other fan letters do you get with oblique Kerouac references?)
No criticism, no complaints. Just a heartfelt thanks for the job you do.
Sincerely,
Wayland G

email laugh track
Brad:
I notice you and Riccardi are now using a laugh track on your shows. Either that or you keep someone in the background who is very easily amused. Whatever the case, I never knew you guys were so incredibly funny! Now I know when to crack up! Can you get a violin track so I know when to be upset?
Thanks for the (now) complete show!
Regards,
Jason

Hmmm. Yeah. We have a new studio producer, Brian, who does react quite enthusiastically. Part of me thinks it sounds canned and fake, and part of me appreciates him at least listening to what he is working on...

Moulton woman says she lost job for sporting Kerry sticker on car
Of course, it was okay for her employer to have a flyer in the paychecks reminding the employees that Bush was great. THIS is what our country is coming to.
I wore a Kerry/Edwards t-shirt Sunday and got sour looks from a lot of folks when I was out and about. I also did get a number of approving comments, but the sour people sure seem to rule nowdays.

war...

It's worse than you think
As Americans debate Vietnam, the U.S. death toll tops 1,000 in Iraq. And the insurgents are still getting stronger

Sixteen months after the war's supposed end, Iraq's insurgency is spreading. Each successful demand by kidnappers has spawned more hostage-takings—to make Philippine troops go home, to stop Turkish truckers from hauling supplies into Iraq, to extort fat ransom payments from Kuwaitis. The few relief groups that remain in Iraq are talking seriously about leaving. U.S. forces have effectively ceded entire cities to the insurgents, and much of the country elsewhere is a battleground.

Iraq troops to get combo lethal/nonlethal weapons
While no decisions have been made on which systems will be used, managers have narrowed the field to a few for consideration, Hall said. Among them is Raytheon Company’s nonlethal Active Denial System, a counter-personnel directed energy weapon that projects a speed-of-light millimeter wave of energy that makes skin feel like it’s on fire.

PAUL KRUGMAN
Taking on the myth
"... the losses aren't only in Iraq. Al Qaeda has regrouped. The invasion of Iraq, intended to demonstrate American power, has done just the opposite: nasty regimes around the world feel empowered now that our forces are bogged down. When a Times reporter asked Mr. Bush about North Korea's ongoing nuclear program, "he opened his palms and shrugged."
Yet many voters still believe that Mr. Bush is doing a good job protecting America.
