CIA boss Tenet is out George Tenet has resigned as CIA director, President Bush announced Thursday, ending the increasingly stormy tenure of a man under fire for the department's intelligence before the Iraq war.

Officials to take 1 more PGA shot Despite apparently slim odds, city and county leaders raced Wednesday to resuscitate the fast-fading PGA Village development.
Wolff: "'s almost like being pushed back to the 10-yard line and we're trying to throw a good hard pass to win the game."

Trying to save PGA Village

I am supporting County Judge Nelson Wolff in his attempt to drum up some emails to the PGA to assure them that there is a substantial base of public support for a PGA golf course at PGA Village.
Any development of Lumbermen's Investment Corporation's Bexar County land, other than the PGA Village concept, would negate the extensive environmental and aquifer protections already negotiated. Simply put, golf courses are kinder to the aquifer than are vast (or even half-vast) housing developments.
The PGA's email address is

I do respect the view of tens of thousands of people who signed petitions to force a public vote on the project, but then saw your efforts go up in smoke because of fancy footwork by the previous City Council. You were maneuvered out of an election that you deserved. That being noted, life goes on, and it is still unavoidably obvious that, given the alternatives, the PGA Village would be the most aquifer-friendly use of LIC's land. I hope you will take a minute to say so to the PGA before its big board meeting next Tuesday.

Army extending tours of war-zone troops ".. soldiers who had planned to retire, move to other Army jobs or leave the military when their enlistments expired will be required to stay for the length of their units' deployment in either of the two combat zones. That could range from a few extra weeks to more than a year."

David's 7th grade class teacher asked the children what their fathers did for a living. Firefighter, Police Officer, Doctor, and so on-- until David said, "My father's an exotic dancer in a gay cabaret. He takes off his clothes in front of other men. Sometimes, if the money's right, he'll go outside with some guy and make love with him for money."
The teacher hurriedly took David aside and asked, "Is that really true about your father?"
"No," said David, "He works for the Kerry for President campaign, but I was too embarrassed to say that in front of the other kids."

Powell says Iraq will have NO power over US forces "There could be a situation where we have to act and there may be a disagreement, and we have to act to protect ourselves or to accomplish a mission," Powell told Dubai-based Middle East Broadcasting Center in an interview aired late on Wednesday.
His remarks again appeared at odds with British Prime Minister Tony Blair's contention last week that the Iraqi government would be able to veto operations such as the U.S. assault on insurgents in Falluja in April.

‘Here a Minute Ago,’ Says Bremer

Sure, the Iraqis are going to get their sovereignty by June 30. Just remember that famous line from the end of Lawrence of Arabia. "It seems we are going to have an English waterworks with an Arabian flag." Just substitute UN for English, and Iraqi for Arabian. Right before George Bush, in place of Lawrence, gets shipped home getting no credit for being the one to actually accomplish anything. You know what they say, those who don't learn from the past...

Gay marriage tops Texas GOP agenda Most important issue to Republican platform writers seems to be their anguish over same-sex marriage

Commentary: Dave McNeely
GOP ready for an Alamo City wrangle The newer, more bare-knuckled Republican Party of Texas that increasingly tends to eat its own opens its biennial convention in San Antonio today.

Senator Cornyn backing 5 changes to Constitution On Wednesday, the Constitution Subcommittee took up the Flag Protection Amendment, co-sponsored by 11 Democrats and 46 Republicans, including fellow Texas Republican Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.

In a half-hour news conference about 2 stolen propane trucks, the local heads of the FBI and Police Dep't forgot to describe the trucks, name the company from which they were stolen, and gave no license numbers. I find this to be

An understandable oversight because of the pressure
Unprofessional and rather frightening

NOTE 2pm Wednesday -- SAPD Sgt. Gabe Trevino tells me that photos and descriptions were handed out to every reporter at the news conference, and says the law bosses did not want to just repeat what was in the handouts. I told Gabe that I watched and listened to the conf and neither heard nor saw the handout information. Also there were no photos on the local FBI website, nor the SAPD and City of San Antonio sites.
